Our skin is made up of two layers, an outer layer, called the epidermis and an inner layer, called the dermis. The epidermis consists of dead skin cells and melanocytes which are the pigment producing cells. It is the inner, dermal layer which forms the foundation of the skin, with the presence of nerve endings and collagen and elastin fibrils.

As we age and due to unprotected sun exposure, we start to loose the tone and elasticity in our skin. Collagen, which makes up to 70% of the dermal layer, is produced by the fibroblast cells. These fibroblast cells become sluggish over time, resulting in a decreased production of collagen fibrils. As a result of decreased collagen we lose the suppleness and tone of our skin. Elastin fibrils make up the remaining 30% of the dermis, they intertwine with the collagen fibrils to hold them together and give strength. Loss in the elastin fibrils causes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Though the aging of the skin cannot be stopped, with the availability of various cosmetic and non-surgical procedures it can be slowed and maintained. With combined procedures such as Microdermabrasion. Chemical peels and IPL treatments we can achieve a smooth and refreshed skin.

Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels are helpful in the exfoliation of dead skin and increased collagen production. The heat from the IPL treatments activates the fibroblast activity resulting in enhanced Elastin and Collagen production, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.
