Vascular Lesions can be described as superficial red, blue, or purple veins under the skin's surface. In younger years, these veins are not visible but as the skin ages and becomes thin, these veins emerge as small spider veins, appearing around the nose, on the cheeks, etc. Though there is no specific reason for the visibility of these small veins, certain genetic or environmental factors may cause them to enlarge.

Almost anybody can be affected by vascular lesions, but more women than men are seen to be affected by the appearance of spider veins. Birthmarks, like port wine stains and hemangiomas, are specific types of vascular lesions which can be reduced with IPL treatments.

IPL treatments are safe for both men and women. During the treatment the beam of light is delivered through cool hand-piece into the skin, avoiding any thermal injury to the surrounding tissue and skin. Small spider veins disappear almost immediately. Some may turn greyish first and then close over a period of 7 to 10 days.
