The AHA and TCA Peels
AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) are a group of chemical substances
whose dermatological use has been well established. AHAs
and TCAs (trichloracetic acids) are “naturally
occurring” acids used in the cosmetic industry for
a Light to Medium range of peeling and exfoliation. Their
action on the skin, when applied in cosmetic doses, is extremely
positive. They primarily affect the dermis by reducing imperfections caused by scarring and sun damage.
It is of utmost importance that they are administered in
correct dose and for the recommended time only. At Laser
Genesis, our esthetician is thoroughly trained to provide
you with the best recipe for your skin type and problem.
The AHAs are a group of substances which are dissolved in
water and have a pH rating of less than 7. Physician’s
Choice chemical peels used for in house treatments are “skin
friendly”, blends of Lactic and Citric Acids. These
safe blends act as buffering agents in minimizing irritation
to the skin and infusing the skin with essential nutrients.
The initial treatment may cause redness, stinging or irritation
but all these problems are resolved as we progress with the
regime and the skin adjusts itself to the dose. By the end
of your series of treatments, you skin will feel smoother, softer and
free of blemishes.
Chemical peels help to restore a more youthful appearance
to the skin.
They restore an even tone to sun damaged and unevenly
pigmented skin. Natural chemicals help to stimulate, tighten
and firm the skin.
The result is a more beautiful, firmer and luminous skin,
which can be seen soon after the treatment.
How are the AHAs and glycolic acids obtained?
AHAs and glycolic acids are obtained from natural fruits such as
lemons, pineapples, passion fruit and grapes
Which problems can be corrected?
Dehydrated and thickened skin benefit from the application
of AHA and glycolic peels. The peeling of dead skin associated
with the AHA and glycolic peels reduces the wrinkles,
hyperpigmentation and acne scars while smoothening the skin's
texture.
Is it beneficial for the prevention of blackheads?
Yes, your chemical peels are beneficial, because the peeling action works to remove dead cells, clearing the clogged pores which can lead to the formation of blackheads.
How do they help the acneic skin?
Acne is caused by the overproduction of sebum which clogs
the pores, and the dirt which is trapped in these pores. As the
AHA and glycolic peels cause exfoliation and peeling, they
reduces the production of oil, keeping the pores clean and
open.
Is the effect of AHA's and glycolic acids permanent?
With an appropriate series of treatments, desired result can be obtained. Once the desired result is obtained, a maintenance dose
must be applied.
What are the possible side effects?
When used in the correct concentration and for right time
there are no side effects, though slight redness and irritation
can be felt.
