Laser Genesis is pleased to introduce a new addition to its laser family.   We are the first medi-spa in Mississauga to offer the Lux 1540 Fractional laser hand piece.  The Fractional can be used to improve colouration, treat melasma, deep wrinkles and deep acne pit scars as well as tighten, smooth and rejuvenate your skin to produce a natural, younger looking appearance.  The treatments can be applied to many areas on your body, including your face, chest, arms and hands.

This technology is used for skin resurfacing and soft tissue coagulation. This system uses patented fractional photothermolysis technology to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin coloration and to tighten the skin. This fractional technology delivers an array of microbeams of light to create narrow, deep columns of tissue coagulation.  These columns penetrate below the superficial layer of your skin, the epidermis, into the dermis while sparing the surrounding tissue from damage. The coagulated tissue begins to heal naturally, accelerating the formation of new, healthy tissue and expels debris as the skin is resurfaced. This coagulation and healing process promotes regeneration of the skin, evening out the texture and tone of the skin, and correcting aberrant pigmentation such as discolouration due to melasma.

The advantage in this technology is that the array of narrow beams stimulates rapid natural healing in the surrounding deep tissue, making this effective for deep corrections and promoting long term dermal remodeling.  The integrity of your outer layer of skin, the stratum corneum, is maintained throughout the treatment so that the tissue is protected against infection as it heals.

By promoting dermal remodeling, this procedure accelerates the production of collagen and elastin and encourages the formation of new, tighter tissue. Over the course of a series of treatments, collagen production begins to increase, creating a healthy and more youthful appearance.

The 1540 Fractional technology can be used in conjunction with IPL Photofacials to produce best results. The 1540 technology can be used initially to aggressively treat loose, wrinkled skin, and then the IPL technology can be used to treat pigmentation and remove small, fine wrinkles.  The combination of these two treatments can help to effectively correct pigmentation, wrinkles and loose skin to produce softer, smoother, tighter and more youthful looking skin. Depending on your skin type and your specific needs, a customized treatment plan can be arranged incorporating these and any other of our services which would be beneficial for you as an individual.

Why choose skin resurfacing treatment with the Lux 1540 Fractional over the Fraxel or a CO2 Laser?

CO2 laser resurfacing is an aggressive and painful procedure which requires anesthetics and significant downtime.  CO2 lasers use more heat to promote skin resurfacing, so following treatment there is significant redness, often accompanied by bleeding and oozing.  Due to the aggressive nature of this treatment, there is also a significant risk of permanent hypo- or hyperpigmentation.

Reliant’s Fraxel technology requires a topical anesthetic for pain management, and for the procedure a blue tint is applied to the treatment area to optimize treatment.  Palomar’s Fractional technology requires no anesthetic because it is not painful, no dyes will be applied to your skin, and there is virtually no downtime involved.

By carefully controlling the level and intensity of the treatment, Fractional technology presents a minimal risk of hypo- or hyperpigmentation, and can even be used to correct pigmented lesions. Palomar’s Fractional technology is less painful, results in less bruising, swelling and burning, and overall makes your treatments a much more pleasant experience without sacrificing in efficacy.

Frequently asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?
To see the best results, we recommend 3 – 4 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart.  Multiple treatments are recommended because each session treats only 20-25% of the affected areas.  By treating only a portion of the skin, the surrounding skin and deep tissues can promote the healing process.

Will there be any side effects?
For the first 24 hours following treatment you may experience a slight sun burn-like sensation.  Pink or red colouration and mild to moderate swelling may accompany treatment will fade within 24-48 hours following treatment.  A good moisturizer can be used to prevent flaking of the skin.

Is there any downtime?
There is absolutely no downtime following treatment and makeup can be applied immediately following the session if desired.

Will treatment hurt?
Unlike other, similar technologies treatment with the Fractional is not painful, you may experience a mild, snapping sensation during treatment but no topical anesthetic is required.
